Fishbaitbilly?

Post by jsuber »

Heard some bad news today. Did Fishbaitbilly pass away? If so then that’s terrible. RIP brother. Help us find fish when you can!

Heartbreaking. I don’t know the details but Billy’s sister, Mary Ellen Ponder, announced on Facebook that he passed on Nov 20th. No services scheduled. They’ll scatter his ashes on the waters in the summer.
Many expressions of sympathy and love for Billy are being posted. He was on FB as “Fishbait Billy”. Type in his name and the different threads will come up.

I shared with his sister that I still recall meeting Billy for the first time in spring of 2010 at St George Island and invited him to join FCKA. Billy first post on April 11, 2010 was about that serendipitous meeting. I was just rewatching our “Harlem Shake” video at Hickory Mounds and trying to find old photos. Unfortunately, most of my photos are long gone, due to dead cell phones, unsaved data and most of my posts here on FCKA are missing the pics now due to PhotoBucket. Not sure if there’s a way to ever retrieve those.

Good to see you, Jean. Billy was the first FCKA member I got to know. I too went looking for pictures of him. I'm going to have to look some more.

All,

The family of Fishbaitbilly will be spreading his ashes Friday, June 25th at Hickory mounds. Fishing will be involved. Several of us are going and all are welcome. Launching at first light.

If I hear anything more I will be sure to share.
A better Kayaker today, than yesterday.

Thank you to everyone that attended and for those that just couldn't make it. His brother led the ceremony with some touching stories about their childhood and adventures. He closed with pouring Billy's ashes at the boat ramp and then most went out and fished. I know some of you came for the fishing report, but I didn't fish so maybe a post will be made about their catches. God bless Billy and his family and friends.

Just read this and I'm heartbroken. It had been 5 or six years since I got to fish with Billy and I'll never forget him pedaling past me while casting and smoking a cigarette at the same time. RIP to an absolute legend.
