Shell Point 7/19

Post by DKWakulla »

I finally managed to get myself out of bed before sunrise and go fishing. No keepers but what a ride..

I was fishing the ledge next to the third set of channel markers going out with fishbites on a jig head. Bait EVERYWHERE. Clean water too. after quite a bit of bump bump bump.. I caught two trout back to back but 14". I cast again feel a bump and WHHHIIIIIIZZZZZZ. 15 minutes and after being dragged halfway back to the big oyster bar Im in close contact with a Ray that was easily 4 feet wide. Frankly I was too busy shitting myself to take a picture once I figured out what it was. No plans on pulling a Steve Irwin, so I cut the line.

Fished the bar some caught probably 10 snot cats. I was using a 2 hook flounder rig with fishbites and had three double hookups all catfish. I may or may not have taken some frustration on one of them with a Ka Bar. Caught one tiny flounder on the way in but dropped him while trying to measure.

All in all fun day. Glad to see the gulf is finally looking like itself

Car hood rays instead of flatties? Sounds like you had fun anyways.

Sounds like a right fine adventure, DK! :A1

Unhooking those big rays can be ton of fun but not for the faint of heart or those prone to loose sphincters.
