Sheepshead - (boat report)

Post by Fyrewalker »

Went out with a friend on his boat this past wed. Ended up under the Carrabelle bridge and caught 24 sheepshead. It would be a short paddle from the boat ramp there and you could just hook up to the walkway under the bridge.
Good enough is good enough. Going the extra mile leads to exhaustion.

Nice. Live shrimp?

Did you do any scraping of barnacles off the pilings? I've heard that people bring shovels and do that and it churns up the sheepshead pretty good and gets them to bite.

Yes we did. I thought they were crazy when they said that they were going to do that! But it works.

Clusters of barnacles hung on a weightless hook allowed to drift down near the pilings work very well after scraping.

Fiddler crabs on an extra heavy 1/0 Circle hook in a drop shot configuration is my go-to for Sheeps.
