Met Dave at 6:15 this morning. On the drive to the coast in the dark there was a lot of heat lightning in the distance. When I arrived at the ramp, there was a dark wall in the distance (S-SE) but it appeared to be staying in the distance. The rest of the sky looked great. There were quite a few folks that launched out of Bottoms this morning. I guess everyone had the same idea regarding getting a few hours in before the rain came at midday.
Dave caught a very nice 18 inch red. I thought I saw him hook up with something at other times, but all he said he caught was the red. I ran into an area with a ton of ladyfish! Big ones! Had some pushing upper 20s giving me some leaping action. I hooked up on something big and the braid just screamed off the reel. Dave could hear it as well. Told him I had to chase it. I use 15 pound leader most of the time. Was hoping to keep on whatever it was. After about 5 minutes of chasing, the leader broke. Never saw it. Lost the lure. Lost a second lure about 15 minutes later. Felt a sharp tug immediately followed by limp line. Must have had some good teeth!
I managed to catch 6 trout (largest being 15 inches), at least 10 ladyfish, 3 catfish and one very nice red. It was 24.5 inches. Since Dave was keeping fish, we kept the 2 reds.
About 11:00 the sky all around started to look dark and rainy, so we called it a day. The one red made the 2 hour drive worthwhile for me.

Great report Steve (as usual)! May have been one of the Tarpon that come through this time of year that burned the drag. Keep those reports coming.
