Spring Creek - 10-21-2017

Post by SRAces »

Met Tim at Rocky's to fish Spring Creek yesterday. My good friend Daniel (who is in the Air Force at Moody AFB) showed up with his 7 year old daughter Josephine. She was a natural with a spinning rod. She managed to catch 2 nice reds in the morning. I knew we would have to beat the low tide out of the creek and the NE wind would not help. We managed to catch some fish early on and then headed out from shore to find deeper water and grass beds.

Daniel and Josephine headed in late morning to call it a day. Tim and I fish until about 3:30pm. A long day for us as we don't usually stay out that long. I don't have a breakdown of what each of us caught, but Tim says I beat him by 2 fish. We have a friendly competition to see who catches the most. We don't count ladyfish, catfish, sharks, etc.

I managed 20 fish and Tim caught 18. Tim managed to catch 2 very nice bluefish but he was off a ways from me, so no pictures. Each of us caught a few quality fish. I managed to catch 3 black sea bass as well as a 3.5 foot bonnet head shark that hit my soft paddle tail near a point. The fish shots below are what we got pictures of. Tim has the pink fish grips. We didn't keep any. All were released.

It was a good day! :D

Tim! I thought that was your secret spot. I've seen you catch some 29inch trout right there. Nice going guys. Great report. Thanks!

The bait of choice for me was an Unfair lures SmackPaddle soft plastic in chartreuse. You can find them at all the Rocky's convenience stores.

That 19-19.5 incher red towards the bottom looks real healthy. Lol
