Shired Island/Creek 11-19-2017

Post by SRAces »

Met Tim at the ramp around 6:30am. For the first few hours it was absolutely dead. The low tide was right at 8am. There was no activity that we could see anywhere. Tim was reminding me that this might not be a future spot...lol! It seemed like the day wasn't going to pan out very well. Around 10 am we worked our way over to a slightly submerged bar near a point and Tim started his fish harvest! While we did catch a few fish in other areas, we basically sat in this one area for quite a while and kept hooking up on fish.

Tim said he felt bad because I out fished him last trip...lol! Well I was definitely schooled this trip! Tim ended up with 2 reds (maybe 3) and the rest all trout. 34 fish in all! I ended up with 15 which would have been a good number on any other day. Except for less than a handful of the trout and one of the reds, all the rest of the fish caught were mid-to-high slot and several over slot.

Just a great day on the water. The weather was very enjoyable the whole day! And yes...I think I can talk Tim into a future trip back to Shired Island/Creek. :D

Great fish. What was the bait of choice for the fat trout?

Great day Steve! Thanks for the report. My guess about the lure, is rip n flash or a chartreuse paddle tail!

I caught all mine between an UnFair lures Rip-N-Slash and the UnFair Paddle Tails. Had a couple of blowups off topwater, but no catches. Tim caught a few fish off topwater, but the majority of his fish were caught on suspending jerk/twitch baits if I remember correctly. Tim did throw the same UnFair paddle tails too. :D

Another quality report Steve.
My best lure for the day was the Suspending Sebile Stick Shad. I would say about half our trout were about 20 inches.

The Sebiles are available at Kevin’s.
A better Kayaker today, than yesterday.
