ST Marks NWR - 01 Feb 2014

Post by Moore Lyon and Quick »

Went to the refuge Sunday from 11:00 to 3:30. Wind was strong from the SE so I went into Sand cove and explored the creeks a bit - saw a few mullet. I then tried Long Bar but was getting blown about too much - drifted to the wash bar and picked up a 17" trout on a olive/chartreuse/white clouser. The wind was still strong, so I beached the kayak and waded out on the wash bar but the SE wind was working against the tide and there wasn't much water movement. I hit Long Bar again but it was getting kinda sporty for fishing. The water was chilly but I think a few days of warm sun would open things up a bit - although I don't think that will happen this week.
