Lookin' for CSB Flyfishing Opportunities

Post by Steve D »

Hey Y'all,

Steve D from DP Poppers here...I'm new to this board but see quite a few familiar names from other boards.

We're headed town to CSB the last week of June and I'll be looking for good opportunities/locations to fling a fly or two. I'll have my yak, a couple of 8 wt flyrods and a bagfull of flies with me. Without giving up any secrets, I was hoping y'all might point me toward some good opportunities to catch a fish or two. Ladyfish on the beach at sunrise are always fun. I'd like a shot at some reds, jacks or trout if possible.

Any information including fly pattern and color preferences and places I might be able to slide a yak in the water or wade on the Cape would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Steve D

steve, dp poppers has some great looking flies and a cool website as well. i do quite a bit of fly fishing but not in the salty waters, so i'm afraid i can't help you out with CSB. i'f you'd like to hit some tallahassee or ochlocknee area ponds for bass while you're down, just let me know.

Thanks for the offer and the compliment bk. I'd love to be able to spend some time fishing up around Tallahassee too but the trip is a family vacation and I already have a full day set aside to fish with a couple of friends from Orlando and High Springs so I doubt I could get away with another day away. I'll have to stick mostly to early mornings close to where we're staying (just outside of the state park on CSB)

Just launch your kayak from the beach. Jacks, spanish macks, bluefish, kings, silver kings, and spinner charks will all eat early in the morning. Bring a 12wt., a box full of big poppers (3/0), and some heavy leader material.
