Tied this fly up and hit the "front pond" this evening.
#6 hook.
marabou tail.
chenile /estaz body.
The bass and bream hit it on top or stripped below the surface.
I loaded it down with floatant but it wouldn't stay up top once it got water logged. i may try adding some foam under the chenile or some deer hair.
I'd just rather catch fish on top.
Any thoughts?

1. tied a hooks length of foam on the shank from back to front, leaving the gurgler scoop up front. put a dab of cement under the scoop to keep it in place.
2. tied in the marabou tail
3. wrapped the chenile from back to front.
4. palmered some black hackle over the chenile towards the front.
The idea of this fly is for the wooly back end to sit down, and the front gurgler to gurgle on the surface. I'll test it out today and report back.

I like the look of those. The hackle on the bottom one looks just right. With any luck it will sit something like this in the water (or maybe just a little higher up).
I always liked that picture / pattern.
BTW that balck chenille look like it is about 1/2 inch in diameter .

tossed the wooly gurgler in the drizzle this afternoon. needs a little bit more foam. i'm on it now and hope to re-test the new prototype tomorrow mid morning.
