new to fly fishing
Girlfriend got me a 7wt for Christmas and I have never even held one til now. I will be back up after the first of the year if anyone wants to head out to do some fishing. Any pointers will be helpful as well I have done some online research but from what I have seen the best way to learn is to get a feel for it.

Take lessons from a certified instructor before you learn any bad habits.

Call Gerald Bell (445 6410). He will probably meet you somewhere or give you the name of someone like Lee Averet who is certified and lives in Tallahassee. The Fly fishing club has a library of books and videos if you join the club. Gerald is the president. Mel Kreger has very good videos on casting. Just google fly casting...lotsa free stuff too. Good luck!

Took the rod to the park today for some casting practice and I must say its not nearly as hard as I thought it might be. My goal is to catch a peacock bass before I head back up and I don't think it will be too difficult.

Where are you looking for Peacock bass? I'm not aware of a local spot near Tallahassee.
Side note I had an earlier post witha link to a Peacock bass on the fly article. If you haven't already read you can find it here.

Re: new to fly fishing
Caught plenty of peacock but sadly none on fly. I did however get a lesson from a certified instructor and fixed a few of my problems. Time to start practicing and getting out on the water.

Re: new to fly fishing
shiv. it's not my favorite time of the year for fishing the fly around these parts, but it doesn't stop me from trying. got a nice hit in the salt on a foam popper over the weekend and picked up a couple of crappie and small bass as well in the fresh stuff. just ordered a new loomis 7 wt from kevins so i'll be itching to get out and throw it soon. perhaps this coming weekend if the it warms up some and the wind lays down.
let me know if you want to join up.
