Early April FC Flies

Well, I'm new here and have only had one other chance to fish the Panhandle. I prefer catching fish on my own flies, try to do a little research (forums are an awesome resource for that) and generally do well enough to have a good time. I'm so happy I found this site before heading down to St. George for the last week of March, first week of April. I know the weather will be iffy, especially with winter holding on like it has. Hopefully, if nothing else, I'll have as much fun with the Spanish Macs like I did last time. But, I really want to get a red or two and will give a good try. Here's what I've been tying up the last couple of weeks to prepare. I'm glad to hear any suggestions. I have lots of smallmouth flies tied on ss hooks that I'll likely try as well.


Start on top and work my way down I guess. Rattling Crease, Blockhead Wiggler, Grizzly Gurgler. These are also smallie flies. I tie with a lot of Wal-mart, Michael's and Hobby Lobby craft foam. #2 Teimco 8089NP hooks.


Streamers. On top is a basically a Hollow-Fleye tied with a 60 deg. jig hook and a nickle plated, dumbell eye. I used Poly-bear for the body material, which is much like EP fibers with angel hair mixed in. It's tied to mimic a popular soft plastic and I think I'll call the "U-n-UR-Damn-Fluke-Fly" or the UUDFF for short. The bottom of course is a Super Clouser for Spanish Macs.


Bottom Knockers. Hairy Fodders, Razmataz. The Razmataz is pretty common on the East Coast, but you guys may have not heard of the Hairy Fodder, yet. My friend, Craig Reindeau designed this pattern as smallie crawfish pattern and found that it works well on all gamefish. He has now published the pattern in Fly Tyer magazine, while Rainy Flies ties and distributes it commercially. It's very easy to tie. Those flies will work. You will be hitting the coast the same week all the public schools let out for Spring Break so expect to dodge some teenagers. As for the weather, a lot can change between now and then, you will have the toruney results from the previous weekend to get some pointers at least.
