Fishing Tourney
Hey Guys, fly fishing works even during tournaments! I fished last Saturday in the freshwater division and took 2nd place using only a fly rod.
It was the first day I had been in the new Heitage Featherlite 9.5 kayak and I really enjoyed the outing. I fished with a 9' 8wt TFO rod and comparable reel. If I caught a fish, I didn't want to loose it. On Friday evening, BK gave me a pencil popper to try & that is what I caught the fish on. I went to Piney Z and stayed there until 11:30 with no luck. I then went to the pool at the lighthouse and caught a nice black bass. The most I could make it measure was 16" but I was plenty proud of getting that. The wind had kicked up around 9:00 and was horrible the rest of the day.
I got 2nd place and the first place fish was 16.4". Really makes you want to try harder!
I'll be back next year! Maybe I will see you there.

PS: Thanks BK. I owe you.

Re: Fishing Tourney
Great job on the tourney, very impressive on the fly. I need to rig up something for the Bonneville to haul the yak for the weekend and I will try to fish somewhere.
I tried to get some practice time from the shore at Miller's Landing today. Fishrcutbate's truck was in the way on the left and the wind wasn't good for the right side. I got about ten minutes in before I was covered in the pine sperm transferred from the top of the water and gave up.

Not unless his is neon yellow/green and covering Lake Jackson, but I will defer to your considerable knowledge on the subject.

How are you guys responding on Friday at 2pm April 2 when it is only April 1st? Are our clocks fouled up somehow?

Thanks. That made a difference. I had it set on Australian Eastern Standard time.

Re: Fishing Tourney
Congratulations on the tourney results! Surprised you didn't have any luck at Piney Z. I was there for a pleasure paddle on Saturday and it was mighty fishy. There was one young man in a kayak who said he'd hooked up a few.
Congrats, again!
