Fly Fishing Day?

Post by BearsFan »

There seemed to be a few people interested in flyfishing at the weigh in after the tournament last week.

Since then I have been throwing around the idea of having a flyfish day kind of a thing where anyone interested can show up and we can share ideas, flies, and techniques (and beer). I do not want to sound like an arrogant prick and that I have all the answers but I would be happy to open up my fly boxes (I have 4 very large ones filled in addition to the few I rotate out of my dry bag and piles of them on every flat surface in the house) and show you guys (and gals) how my kayak is rigged. Maybe even discuss some techniques. I know that I would like to see what everyone else has going on and try learn a few things. Maybe we could meet up at a launch a few hours before a good tide chat a bit, fish a few hours, and then meet back up afterwards grill some food and share notes on the day. Just a thought, anyone interested can shoot me a pm or just reply here and we can try to put this together.

Cam, this was the milder of the two. We were just yelling at the boys, right?!

BearsFan, sounds cool! A fishing expedition and sharing ideas sounds like a plan!

I'd be in for sure....But just to let you know I have zero technique when it
comes to fly fishing and would be the first one to hook myself in the ear

ear piercing is better than nipple piercing, which is better than nose piercing, which is far better than eye piercing.

BF - I applaud your efforts to promote the most exciting way to catch fish in shallow water. This weekend, I caught two reds on a fly………….I mean a BK popper, blind casting a known productive oyster bar. Yes BK, they were the ones you got for me at BPS last year. I gotta say, for me, it was way more fun watching the surface explode, than catching a red on a subsurface fly. The fact that I used a popper and blind casted actually enhanced the experience….. not knowing if or when the explosion would occur. So be tolerant of the non purist in your efforts to promote a great sport and again congrats on your efforts!

Gulp can be thrown on a fly rod. not a fly but it will catch fish. You just need to use super glue or a bait hook with those little barbs at the top. Not that I ever tried it of course. If I ever did try it, the little twister tail gulp works the best. I mean would work best.
