a couple bass on sliders and poppers

Post by abcarias »

Havent been killing them on the long rod lately but still getting a few takers each trip. Below I caught a couple decent bass, 1 from a local wading pond and one from Jackson last week. When I got to the landing that day, a couple older gentlemen were unloading their caine poles and had two bucket fulls of bream and shellcrackers, each biger than your hand. I could hear them on the lake gigling and ragging each other all morning. They were really having a good time. I had only caught three or four to their 25 plus biggins....perspective?

Good stuff Steve. Looks like some healthy bass. Taken on the fly nonetheless. Keep em coming.

...and on that fly, there was a bass, the prettiest little bass that you ever did see....
...and the green grass grew all around, all around....

Sweet times, Steve. That's my perspective.

A few bass on any tackle in August is a good day.

Nice looking bass. I tried to wade fish with the buggy whip on the east end of SGI this Saturday. The ladyfish wanted nothing to do with me.

What fly were you using?

I threw some god awful colorful home made fly (lead eyes upturned hook pink feathers splayed tarpon style for a bit then switched to a green alf sierra mac (glass minnow impersonation). As usual with beach trips, the main purpose was take the kids to the beach. The east end is a compromise that let's me think there might be some fish there.

Probably too many sharks around.

I have had success catching sharks on a fly from a boat but from a yak would be very challenging. Even from the shore, unless you see them and put it on their nose, it would be very tough to elicite a bite I think.
