Playing with my yak.

Post by Yakmanjr »

As much as I love fishing from my kayak, I just don't have as much time as I used to. Sadly, I'm only able to take it out every couple of weeks if I'm lucky. One thing I love as much as fishing from it is modifying it. Since I don't use it much, I tend to be frugal when it comes to buying accessories for it. I have found some great deals lately on a few items. First is the low sitting beach chair I found at work. I got the chance to use it a couple weeks ago on the coast and it actually worked great! Decided to attach some rod holders to the back. Image

Next up while shopping at Dillard's with my wife, I came across this soft cooler. Comes in at 22 inches long which is perfect for me. Only fish I tend to keep are trout. The cooler was on clearance and Dillard's was running an additional 40% clearance so I was able to pick this up for $20 and some change. Stylish and cheap haha! ImageImage

And finally, I turned my old circle K cooler into a small live well to keep a couple of live pinfish in it. It fits right behind my seat for easy access. Image

Just playing around with the yak and felt like sharing!

Fun stuff MacGuyvering it up! Gonna call yours the party boat!

Now you just need to construct a little palm frond cabana for shade and a tiny steel drum and you're good to go. The fish will conga dance and limbo right up into the yak!

Fishing in style! Haha. I couldn't pass up the cooler as the one I've been eye balling was around $85.00. Also, the seat was free so.... Fashion fishing it will be!

Next up while shopping at Dillard's with my wife!
Upon careful consideration, I think I've found the solution for your lack of fishing time!

Actually, I really like the beach chair with rod holders. I'll bet that if the angle of the PVC pipe was changed, and the cooler attached to the back of the chair, there might be some real potential for a surf fishing set-up. Rod holder and beer cooler all in one!

Oh yeah, I see your point!

Good point about the chair. I have a second chair I might do that to.

No biggie! :D I've gone by "Happy Wife Happy Life" for the last 11 years and it seems to be working pretty well. She deserves to go shopping every once in a while. Unfortunately, I get dragged along ha!

Thanks for the answer. I would use caution and cut a notch in the pvc to keep those rods from spinning since the hooks will be just about ear level.
