Flint River Shoal Bassin'

Post by DKWakulla »

Went on a little trip with some friends of mine up in GA. We paddled the 16 miles between the Warwick(Lake Blackshear) dam and HWY 32 bridge. Stopping to fish all the shoals, it took around 14 hours to make the trip. I got lazy with the camera at times, but that was a clear as I think I have ever seen the flint river. Fishing was pretty good, probably would have been better if we didn't move so fast. 2 Shoal Bass 1.5 to 2 lbs, a largemouth, and a bunch of shellcrackers.

Spring-fed creek about 2 miles from Warwick. The water was like icewater

River was pretty low, here's a hell of a drop off on a bend

It was a blast and a 2 pound Shoal Bass fights like an 18" redfish. Pretty good run to make this time of year.

Now that looks like a blast to me. Did y'all stop and camp or do all that in one day? Thanks for posting Dk!

We wanted to stay and camp somewhere, but literally all the land along that stretch of river is posted no tresspassing by plantations now. Also opening day of bow season in GA, so no thanks.

I loved seeing your river report. We don't see many of them on FCKA. I've spent a lot of time this year fishing below the dam on Talquin and found it really enjoyable. You never know what your going to catch. I wonder how many others fish the rivers much? I would love to find others wanting to give it a try.

Great looking trip, you know you are having a good relaxing time when you forget to take pictures.
Fishing below the dams used to be fun, I would be up for it again Tim.

I have caught some really nice largemouth there south of the dam. Haven't been in years though!

DK - that looks like an awesome trip that I will also have to do sometime! Thanks for sharing! Great pics!
