I have never fished saltwater

Post by RIKSTER »

I have been freshwater kayak fishing for awhile but never saltwater. I will be RV camping along the Forgotten Coast in December for over a month and plan to fish many times. I will be at Edisto in South Carolina next week for a short time and hope to wet a line. I'm assuming I will be doing inshore and some brackish river fishing. My questions are: will my bass fishing rigs work in these situations? If not, what rod and reel set up would I need?

Ill join you for at least one day. Fishing the salt is a lot like bass fishing except we have bigger sharks, and the same alligators.

Your bass rigs will work fine. Be sure to rinse well after each saltwater adventure.

Be sure to take @jsuber 's offer of joining you.

I'm thinking Forgotten Coast, but Dad always told me about thinking.

Many thanks to jsuber for meeting me and showing me the ropes!! I had never caught a redfish before and I ended up catching four!!!! He taught me technique and method. And he turned me on to the Canoeman Loop Knot! Elegant, simple and it will forevermore be in my knot arsenal. Again, thanks!

And when we got done he pulled all my teeth. Good time. Always enjoy putting anglers on their first species whether it be redfish, tarpon or trout. Fishing is good now so get wet.

All of them, the one on top and the one on the bottom. If you are not feeling challenged when you go fishing...then take someone and pass along what you know. It’s feels pretty good.
