Will be down on St. George the last week of March. I understand that Pompano may be running and can be caught from the beach. Anyone have any info on flies, lines, tactics, etc? Also, I'm bringing my T-120 to fish for reds and trout on the north side of the island. I've put a post over on the Newbie forum. I'd sure appreciate any info posted there as well. any sand flea or shrimp imitation should work well. some sort of clouser should also do the job.

If you're surf fishing, you'll have to cast a fly past the breakers. You'll also need a quick sinking fly, cause the current will push the fly towards you once it hits the water. A sinking or intermediate type line will work. Once the fly hits the bottom, drag it across with long, slow strips. When you've done this for an hour or so, put the fly rod back up and toss a nylure jig tipped with shrimp.

You maybe a little early for pompano, but if they are running try east pass. Fish the trough that runs parallel to the beach.

I understand, if they are running, it will be very early in the run. How far out are the breakers? I've got a 350 g Teeny shooting head line that I can cast a fair distance. It gets down extremely fast. I was planning on using it where the flats drop off into the bay, but had not considered it for the surf. Is it safe to put a kayak in on the Gulf side to reach them?

much of the time, you can catch em in the first 20 feet from shore. the quick sinking line you mention should be quite helpful.
