December Break on the Family Pond

Hello All,

Got a BPS gift card and stopped by the DFW store and picked up a $20 5wt 2pc rod and decided to look through the Cabela's bargain cave to find a decent 5wt ST line. It was time to see if the pond had any interested parties.

The first day I forgot the camera and caught 10 to 12 one lb bass plus one 2 lb bass (a couple of bream as well) all on a purple conehead wooly bugger.

After that I fished about an hour for the five or so days when it wasn't raining, flooding, or blowing twenty out of the north / south.

The weather cooled off and so did the fishing but caught four or more bass every day I was able to give it a shot. Then the whole field was muddy as was the overflowing pond.

The whole album is here.

Here are some "highlights".

The first bass on camera - second day.

Clouser hooked deep.

Another bass on fly

Some bream as well

"Larger" bass on mini-crankbait. Crankbait RIP after a bad retrieve from an overhanging tree where the back treble became a single hook and the lip broke off at the body.

Bass on BK's Secret black fly.

I didn't take the camera everyday and I didn't take it this afternoon (Dec. 30) either. I only had about 40 minutes of light but I hadn't hit the pond much in the last couple of days since I froze to days ago.

I had to come back to the house to snap a quick shot of the first respectable bass I tangled with this week. Agian on the Super Secret BK black fly. I guess I will have to tie up a few more of those.

I had my dad take a shot for more perspective. Doh!

I took a self portrait just for good measure.

Didn't want to kill the fish more than hauling up to the house to snap a quick picture or two so no measure or weight but it could have easily eaten every other bass I caught all week.

I may try to hit the pond one or twice more before the long haul back to Tallytown.
