Time to tie some flies

Been real busy and out of town so not much fishing going on. I did hook up on my birthday 8wt in Palm Harbor Florida (for about two seconds until the oyster cut the tippet.)

What I have managed to do is collect a few more supplies.

Here is the most recent haul from the Black Fly Outfitters in Jacksonville.

If you have been keeping track with fly tying you know that long skinny hackle (feathers) is now a hair accessory and mostly inaccessible to fly tyers - those with my kind of budget anyway. Hairdressers sell the hackle for abut $5 - 10 per feather.

I picked this Olive dyed pheasant and I want to tie green over white deceivers/seaducers from it. Rounded out the order with some centipede legs, green EP fibers and some white synthetic material I haven't tried before. The pheasant is not done justice by the picture and I think it will be fun to play with.

Also hit Strike Zone and Academy Sports for some artificials and to help other pick up some sale priced rod / reel combos. Ran out of time to hit SaltyFeather but that leaves a little adventure for next time.

Awesome! anytime i'm over in jax, i always make it a point to stop at the fly shops. good pick up, greg.
tied up some new stuff myself last week. now if only the wind would lay down some.
i've been told that the wind blows all year around here. except for months that rhyme with muly and waugust.

The drive across the street is definitely worth it. I think they have a better selection of tying materials, also have good lines on clearance almost all the time. That wind will die down on about another week or so according to my logs. I have been tying a bunch lately, these are headed out west for some streamer junkies.

Yeah, the plan was to hit both fly shops but I was not completely in control of the itinerary. The navigator thought they knew the shop's location but it turned out to be more a blue water / trolling bait specialty shop. Once we screwed up and left the immediate area,it just wasn't worth it to backtrack. The plan is to be back in Jax in about a week so I'll track it down then.

Nice looking flies - I bet that zonker tail gets some great movement in the water.

Have you heard of congo hair? In the solid colors it is just about identical to ep. The consistency of the material is not as consistent, or as high quality IMHO, but it is pretty dang close and quite a bit cheaper. The ep 3d is a whole different story, he really does a nice job of blending colors with that stuff. Congo hair and some other cool materials here the holiday gift boxes are a good deal too.

didn't buy anything yet.
i'm waiting for this dang wind to ease up so i can loose some flies and justify buying more materials.
