What do y'all use for colder weather

It's likely going to start getting rather uncomfortable in a kayak in the coming months. Jacket+wetsuit bottoms?

Synthteics. Nothing cotton. Cotton can kill in the winter.

Cold and wet are not fun. Get tops and bottoms that prevent both. I prefer stuff that can be easily striped off since the temps typically warm up with the sun. Or, you can take the big Irish approach to winter fishing....wait until march.

I was considering something like a farmer john style wetsuit, then polyester stuff over that. Those goretex drysuits look awfully nice, but not $1000 nice.

My boat is NOT a dry one. Even with all the scuppers plugged, you still will take a swell to the nether regions if you get broadsided.

Breathable thermal layers, top and bottom. Fleece jacket with waterproof jacket and pants. Wool/fleece hat or balaclava.
Best item ever is waterproof knee high boots for slogging through winter low tide mud and for getting out on oyster bars.
I bet those bibbed waders are awesome, too.

Fishing is just so fantastic here in the winter. Salt and fresh. Love it!

First off, whatever you get, you should be comfortable swimming in. If you are wearing so many clothes you can't swim in them, then don't go. The water is also a lot warmer than the air, and you will be real close to the water. Real close. Go with a friend. If you have to swim, they will be needed to save your life.

Thanks guys. I'd rather not go somewhere that is too deep to stand up in in really cold weather.

At least the way this particular winter is going, there's probably going to be more than a few 60+ degree days to go fishing.

One of the best things I picked up was neoprene shorts by Valeo. They sell them on line in those crazy items catalogues like Lillian Vernon as weightloss shorts. They keep the scupper splashes off you and a warm butt all day as they cover from just under your chest to the top of your knees.
Second are the Dive boots or Fishing shoes, again they are neoprene wetsuit technology but they really work well and keep you warm.
The third is a set of cheap waders with sock feet and a cheap pair of sneakers from payless or boots from wallyworld. You will be dry all over. However, you cant swim in the waders so make sure the shoes/boots will come off easily.

I got a set of polyester waders with the stocking feet. It's nice enough today, I may try 'em out at WB

Colder weather, finally something I know about!
Dress in layers. Windblock fleece, wool socks (or Smartwool), and Goretex or other breathable/waterproof shells are all good. Cotton is the devil. Synthetic thermal underwear is your friend. I like Crocs over my wool socks because they allow the water to escape and the wool or Smartwool socks still keep me warm. Much of your body heat escapes through your head (especially if your top layer is thin like mine is) so a non-cotton hat is good.
